Mr. Ducharme gained multiple prizes at both national and international competitions, including the first prize of the Guitar-Lachine International Competition in 2003, the third prize and the prize of the public of the International Competition in Guitar-Antony (France) and the third prize of Guitar Foundation of America International Competition in 2004. More recently, Mr. Ducharme obtained the first prize with the contest of the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition in 2005, making of him the only Canadian ever to have gained this honor. His first solo CD was released under label NAXOS, released in the autumn 2006, has received great reviews and is distributed worldwide. A live DVD of Jerome performing will be soon be available through Mel Bay.
Jerome Ducharme began his musical studies at the Arts center in Joliette in 1990 with Andre Morissette. He also had the opportunity to study with Clément Canac Marquis privately and at the musical Camp of Lanaudière. He became a student of Jean Vallières at the Montreal Conservatory of Music in 1994, and obtained his diploma in 2000 as well as the Prize of the Academy with Great Distinction (96%). He took part in several masterclasses with several renown international artists including Manuel Barrueco, Roberto Aussel, Hubert Käppel, Remi Boucher, Roland Dyens, Pépé Romero, Nigel North and Stephen Robinson. After his studies in Montreal, he spent a year in Switzerland, where he studied at the Academy of Music of Bâles in Switzerland with Oscar Ghiglia and Stephan Schmidt. In September 2008, Jerome Ducharme entered the doctoral program at the University of Montreal.
Besides his solo career, Mr. Ducharme has a wide professional experience including a participation in a production of the Opera of Montreal, chamber music, creation of modern music, competition adjudication and concerto performances with orchestra.
