Michael Matthews' music has been performed in countries around the world. In 2001 the world premier recordings of his Symphony No. 1 and Out of the Earth were released by TNC Recordings; Virko Baley conducted the Kiev Camerata Orchestra. Recent performances have included the Saskatoon premiere of Between the Wings of the Earth (Earl Stafford and the Saskatoon Symphony), the Russian premiere of Postlude by Sergei Golubkov, Montreal premieres of Miniatures (the Molinari Quartet) and Between the Wings of the Earth (Wanda Kaluzny and the Montreal Chamber Orchestra), and the Ukrainian premiere of Ernst Toller - Requiem for an Idea by Paul Marleyn. Recent world premieres have been given by Ensemble Resonance of expecting/the sun, by the Molinari Quartet of Miniatures, by the Cuarteto Latinoamericano of String Quartet No. 1, and by Gordon Campbell, soloist Jorge Suarez and the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra of Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. The composer is currently writing a cello concerto for Arkadiusz Tesarczyk and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, as well as a second symphony and works for the Ian Hodges/Charlene Pauls duo and for Mexican flautist Alejandro Escuer.
